JADAVPUR UNIVERSITY
Admission to the Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS) course
in the session 2009-2010
1. Eligibility:
a) For Deputed Candidates: Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with at least one
year’s experience (as on the last date for submission of applications) as a wholetime
salaried employee in a recognized library/information center. The
application must be forwarded with a ‘No Objection’ certificate by the
Appointing Authority.
b) For Certificate in Library Science holders: Bachelor’s Degree in any subject plus
Certificate in Library & Information Science with minimum 60% marks (45% for
SC/ST and 55% for PD candidates) from any recognized institution.
c) For others: An Honours and/or Master’s Degree in any subject or equivalent
degree with a minimum of 50% marks at any level (no marks barrier for
SC/ST/PD candidates) from any recognized institution, with a minimum of 45%
marks in the H.S. or equivalent examination.
2. Applicants are requested also to read the instructions given in the prescribed application
form. Applications submitted or received by post after the notified last date will not be
considered.
3. For candidates under the SC/ST Quota: Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe certificate
must be obtained from a competent authority in the name of the candidates themselves.
An attested photocopy of the certificate must be furnished along with the application
form.
4. For candidates under the Permanently Disabled Reserved Category: A permanent
disability certificate must be obtained from a competent authority viz. Surgeon/ District
Chief Medical Officer of Health/Superintendent of Government Hospitals. An attested
photocopy of the certificate must be furnished along with the application.
5. Deputed candidates should attach attested copies of appointment letters with their
applications.
6. Candidates provisionally selected for admission to the BLIS course are to appear for an
interview. Admission is to be taken on the specified day, if selected.
7. Selection procedure:
a) Deputed Category: Selection will be made in order of merit ascertained on the
basis of academic results including results of the Certificate in Library &
Information Science and experience of library work.
b) Certificate Holder Category: Selection will be made in order of merit ascertained
on the basis of academic results including results of the Certificate in Library &
Information Science.
c) Other Category: Selection will be made in order of merit ascertained on the basis
of academic results.
