BSNL launches 3G services
BSNL, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited the country's Telephone Network announced on Friday that it had launched the 3G Third Generation mobile services in India in eleven cities. Also it is planning to expand this facility to other places in India. Stating that BSNL invested around Rs27K crore amounting to $530 million for 3G Infrastructure and this will cover major cities and towns in the nation.

Interestingly India will be holding an auction for this 3G spectrum in the later part of this year. Moreover the sectors individual units in states were given slots each in their respective service area having to compete or match the bid of the private operators in this market field.

3G is the next generation of mobile communications systems. It enhances the services such as multimedia, high speed mobile broadband, internet access with the ability to view video footage on your mobile handset. With a 3G phone and access to the 3G network you can make video calls, watch live TV, access the high speed internet, receive emails and download music tracks, as well as the usual voice call and messaging services found on a mobile phone, like person to person video, live streaming, downloadable video of entertainment, news, current affairs and sport content and video messaging.Contents available in 3G services include Mobile TV, Mobile Broadband, Video calls, Movies, Video PRBT etc.

USIM is a SIM card for 3G services. USIM stand for Universal Subscriber Identification Module. USIM is provided to access 3G services. The storage capacity of 3G SIM will be 128 KB ie 128 KiloBytes or 1024 bits.
